Maciej Szyszka at HoloLife in Tallinn: A breath of fresh air for the world of sport

In the dynamically developing world of sport, techniques that until recently were considered unusual or even marginal are becoming increasingly appreciated. One such practice is conscious breathing training, which has become the foundation of our AirFlow Performance project philosophy. Maciej Szyszka spoke about this approach at this year’s HoloLife conference in Tallinn.

Results of cooperation with Lech Poznań

Maciej Szyszka, co-founder of AirFlow Performance, has been working intensively over the last few years to introduce breathing training into the training routines of professional footballers. His cooperation with the Lech Poznań team has brought impressive results – studies confirm a significant improvement in the players’ fitness, which translates directly into their match results. Thanks to the implementation of the AirFlow methodology, Lech players have managed to increase their playing time by an average of 44%, and the distance covered during matches has increased by 35%. This means not only greater endurance, but also the ability to perform more intense actions, which are crucial for the outcome of a match.

Breathing through the nose as the key to success

During his speech at HoloLife, Maciej emphasised the importance of breathing through the nose as the foundation of his methodology. Based on scientific research and many years of practice, he presented evidence that breathing through the nose is much more effective than breathing through the mouth. This way of breathing promotes better oxygenation of the muscles, improves concentration and increases resistance to stress.

Inspiration from the world of sport

Maciej also cited examples from the world of sport, including breathing techniques used by stars such as Erling Haaland and Iga Świątek, who incorporate breathing methods into their daily routine, e.g. by taping their mouths shut while sleeping to force themselves to breathe through their noses. The result of such practices is a significant improvement in sleep quality, reduced stress and increased performance on the pitch or tennis court.

Data confirming the effectiveness of AirFlow training

At the conference, Maciej Szyszka also presented data from monitoring applications, which prove that thanks to AirFlow training, players significantly reduced the time spent in the highest, most stressful heart rate zones (Zone 5), shifting it to the optimal aerobic zone (Zone 3). This allowed for a reduction in anaerobic load and improved exercise economy. The result is not only longer performance by players, but also greater precision in their play in the final minutes of matches.

Practical breathing training session

HoloLife participants had the opportunity not only to listen to Maciej’s presentation, but also to take part in a practical breathing training session. Szyszka demonstrated simple but effective exercises that each participant could perform on their own.

The classes were met with great interest and enthusiasm, confirming the growing awareness of the importance of breathing in improving health and athletic performance.

The conference as a source of inspiration

The conference in Tallinn also provided an opportunity to exchange experiences with other experts from the wellness and sports industry, enabling Maciej to further develop his methods and draw inspiration from new ideas.

AirFlow Performance – the breathing of the future

At AirFlow Performance, we believe that conscious breathing training is the future of professional sport. Our presence at HoloLife was yet another step towards raising awareness of this approach and promoting healthy, efficient breathing among athletes worldwide.

Returning with new ideas

Maciej Szyszka returned from Tallinn full of new ideas, energy and an even greater conviction that breathing may be the key to achieving peak form not only in sport, but also in everyday life.
